Hari meets Hara

After defeating Ravan in Lanka, Ram, burdened by the sin of killing a Brahmin, wished to seek forgiveness from Shiv. He asked Hanuman to bring a Shivling from Kailash, but when Hanuman was delayed, Sita sculpted a ling out of sand. Rama offered his prayers, and Shiv, pleased with his devotion, granted him absolution.
This sacred lingam is now worshipped as the Ramanathaswamy Jyotirling - "The Lord of Ram." When Hanuman returned, another lingam was also installed, and both are revered to this day.
