Gold of Tirumala

When Goddess Lakshmi left Lord Vishnu after a disagreement, he descended to Earth in sorrow - taking the form of Venkateswara and settling in the forests of Tirumala. To sustain himself and prepare for his reunion with Lakshmi, he took a loan from Kuber, the god of wealth.
Even today, it is said that every offering made at Tirupati helps repay that divine debt.
Balaji’s idol, discovered under an anthill by a devotee king, is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu).
